With great pleasure we announce this session. there will be two presentations and a paneldiscussion with three panelmembers.

You’re invited to this unique session at TU Eindhoven. ‘When AI is not intelligent, and data science is not scientific’. AI and data science are often heralded as powerful tools for understanding and solving complex problems. These technologies indeed hold great potential, but their success hinges on specific conditions: the problem must be well-articulated, the evaluation methods must be aligned accordingly, and the methodological setup must be valid. In the excitement to adopt AI and data science, it’s easy to overlook the foundational elements that ensure these tools are effective and reliable.

Moreover, the interpretation of AI results requires a nuanced understanding of the technology’s limitations and potential biases. Over-reliance on AI outputs without rigorous validation can result in decisions that are not only suboptimal but also ethically questionable. Ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI applications is paramount, yet these issues are frequently underrepresented in mainstream success narratives. We will delve into the non-trivial, yet crucial factors that underpin the efficacy of AI and data science, illustrated with several real-world examples.
