A Configuration Management Database (CMDB) contains all the information about the hardware and software components used as IT services in an organization. The relationships between the various components are also recorded in the CMDB. Keeping the database up-to-date is therefore very important, and reliability depends on timeliness, accuracy, correctness and completeness.

During this session, Bram Huijsmans, Configuration Manager at Central Bureau of Statistics, will present his views on what it takes to build a good foundation for the CMDB. Questions addressed during his presentation include: What are the pitfalls in setting up a CMDB? What things must be set up to properly start a CMDB? What management processes are needed to keep the CMDB at the desired level? And how do you ensure that the staff working on the CIs continue to record it properly?

If you and or colleagues would like to share knowledge and experiences about the design and setup of the CMDB, or are curious about how CBS has set it up, please sign up quickly by sending a message to your organization's Community Officer.
