We see that right now, there are 5 unique generations working within organizations, which is unprecedented and has an impact on the social systems (working together, leading, making decisions and dealing with differences) in organizations. This challenges and opportunities around these 5 generations manifest at the individual and organizational level. Some examples where it becomes visible are in; adoption of new digital technology, choices about how many days we want to work, what kind of company we want to work for and how we want to add value.

In addition, many organizations struggle with loss of knowledge, high staff turnover, mental numbness and impending staff shortages. Again, it is about different generations who cannot identify with each other and are looking for a new challenge, the frighteningly high number of millenials who involuntarily go along with dated ways of working, taking away kilos of energy. And the protest generation (1940 - 1955) who are heading toward retirement and taking the implicit knowledge, their professional knowledge, with them into retirement.

Similarly, it has been studied that which generation(s) an organization is largely represented by partly determines the organization's image in the marketplace. Very interesting to examine and see which customers you want to attract and how your recruitment body is organized and with what focus...The beauty is, the opportunities to make these differences understandable and turn them into powerful social processes are closer than we think. Because what happens when you start the conversation with the goal of understanding each other better?

No matter what role you play, whether you are a Manager, need to set HR strategy, Finance employee or Developer, we are all human beings and all work within organizations. Are you curious, want to know more about what you can do and how you can push yourself and others to become aware and possibly change.....
